This
interactive workshop series consists of two full-day workshops and
an evening workshop at the MTU Observatory. This series will focus
on how to set measurable student learning objectives in astronomy
for the secondary science classroom. Participants will learn how to
create productive learning environments by focusing on set learning
objectives, using interactive lectures, peer instruction, engaging
demonstrations, collaborative groups and observational projects.
Instructor:
Dr. Wellesley Pereira
Dr. Pereira is a dynamic instructor who communicates his love for
astronomy to his students. He received the Outstanding Teacher Assistant
Award from the American Association of Physics Teachers for his ability
to make complex subjects understandable to his audience. He has taught
Introductory Astronomy, Perspectives in Cosmology and Astronomy Labs
at MTU.

This
workshop series is free to teachers, due to a grant from the Michigan
Space Grant Consortium. Grant funds will cover all workshop materials,
transportation to MTU Observatory, and lunch at the November 21 workshop.

graduate credit from MTU is available for participants that attend
the whole series. The cost of MTU credit is the responsibility of
participant.
