1††††††††† Nov 16, 2001†††† ††††††††††† Rocks for Beginners- Geosphere Benchmarks††††††††††† 6 hrs

Copper Country ISD, Hancock MI††††††††††† †††††††††††

Teachers will consider many elements of our planet's surface features and earth materials, including minerals, rocks, sediment and soil.We will study how several types of rocks are formed, how they are changed through time and investigate how rocks and fossils are used to understand Earth's history.

Presenter:Barbara McTaggart, Ph.D. Geohydrology

2††††††††† Jan 11, 2002†††† Water, Water Everywhere- Hydrosphere Benchmarks††††††††††† 6 hrs

Michigan Tech, Houghton, MI†††††††††††

This workshop promotes awareness, appreciation, and knowledge of water resources through the use of engaging hands-on activities. Topics include the water cycle, water quality, physical and chemical characteristics of water, and groundwater interactions. We will consider how people use water and where our water supply comes form.

Presenter:Barbara McTaggart, Ph.D. Hydrogeology & Joan Chadde, M.S. Water Resources

††††††††††††††††††††††† ††††††††††† ††††††††††† Copper Country ISD, Hancock MI

We will investigate the elements that come together to produce Earth's weather, how weather changes form day to day, as well as seasonal changes in weather. We will also look at stories that describe weather in various climate zones of Earth.

Presenter:Heather Bradway, M.S. Science Education and Shawn Oppliger, M.S. Biological Sciences

We will investigate our solar system, considering how objects move with respect to each other and the unique nature of the sun, planets and moons within our solar system. We will also consider other planets and sun systems and explore how we learn about the universe.

Presenter:Heather Bradway, M.S. Science Education and Shawn Oppliger, M.S. Biological Sciences
