Great
Lakes Aquarium Visits Copper Country & Western U.P. Schools
April 3-7th
The Great Lakes Aquarium of Duluth will be in the Copper Country
and
western U.P. conducting assemblies and classroom programs from April
3-7. Their visit is hosted by the Western Upper Peninsula Center
for
Science, Mathematics & Environmental Education. The school
assemblies and classroom presentations at eight elementary schools
in Houghton, Baraga, and Gogebic counties will reach more than 1500
K-6 students in this two-county area. The assembly program engages
students in learning about the cultural, geologic and ecological
history of Lake Superior in a fun and memorable fashion. Classroom
presentations will focus on Lake Superior geology, the water cycle,
and animals from the Great Lakes area.
"This is a wonderful opportunity for Copper Country children
to
learn more about Lake Superior, the largest body of freshwater by
surface area on Earth," explains Chadde. "We are very
pleased with
the enthusiasm and interest expressed by area schools and teachers."
The programs of the Great Lakes Aquarium are designed to capture
the
wonder and excitement of Lake Superior, inspire responsibility for
the world's large lakes and fresh water, and create understanding
of
their value. Great Lakes Aquarium offers school assembly programs,
classroom presentations, teacher workshops, and school residencies
throughout the Lake Superior watershed. The Great Lakes Aquarium,
a
$33 million facility, opened in Duluth, Minnesota in 2000.
