Conference Purposes and Objectives
a. Facilitate communications among conference participants about critical environmental issues, schooling for sustainability and students connecting with their natural surroundings in ways essential to sustainable living.
b. Engage participants in conversations about future forces affecting education and rethinking the ways public education can better serve its role in the development of a sustainable society.
c. Promote education for sustainable living and environmental stewardship that helps young people to gain the knowledge, skills, insights and motivation to contribute in making the world a better place for everyone and everything.
d. Share information and suggestions on planning, implementing and operating high-quality charter schools with environment-focused educational programs, green practices, and student project-based learning.
e. Explore ideas about how colleges and universities can best train future educators who are interested in teaching in innovative green schools with environmentally focused project-based curriculums, high-tech tools for anywhere and anytime learning, and school-site autonomy and contractual (i.e. charter) accountability for student learning outcomes.
The conference will be attended by educators, students and parents, environmentalists, school officials, university professors and students, charter school people, community members, public policy leaders, researchers, and others.
