Michigan Tech Sponsors "Frog-tastic" Program at Portage Library
from Tech Today

Joan Chadde is calling all frog lovers to hop to the library for a hopping good “Frog-tastic” frog program on Thursday, Aug. 14, from 6:30-8 p.m. in the community room.

Chadde, Education Program Coordinator for the Western Upper Peninsula Center for Science, Mathematics and Environmental Education, is a water resource specialist and has been conducting the Michigan Department of Natural Resources frog-calling survey since 1996.

She will describe the habitat requirements of different frog species, their adaptations to aquatic and terrestrial environments, how frogs differ from toads and the unique characteristics of tadpoles versus adult frogs. Participants will act out the life cycle of frogs, become familiar with frog calls, play some frog games and observe several species of live frogs.

This program is co-sponsored by the Portage Lake District Library, the Western Upper Peninsula Center for Science, Mathematics and Environmental Education and Michigan Technological University with funding from the Kinship Foundation.

The Houghton High School Key Club continues to offer Storytime each Wednesday from 11 a.m. to noon. All children are welcome to listen to stories and participate in a craft project afterward.

Library programs and presentations are free and everyone is invited to attend. For more information please call 906-482-4570.
