GLFT Grant Announced
The Western Upper Peninsula Center for Science, Mathematics and
Environmental Education, in cooperation with the Michigan Tech Center for
Water & Society, Keweenaw Land Trust and Keweenaw Economic Development
Alliance has been awarded $20,000 from the Great Lakes Fishery Trust
(GLFT) to develop a strategy to actively involve K-12 teachers and
students in the protection and restoration of the Great Lakes through
teacher professional development, local hands-on stewardship education,
and community partnerships.
The goal of the Great Lakes Stewardship Initiative is to increase
awareness and understanding of the ecology of the Great Lakes so that
Michigan residents become active stewards of the Great Lakes and advocates
for strategies that support the long-term sustainability of the Great
Lakes fisheries.
