This intensive, interactive six-day Institute is designed to provide grades 4-12 teachers with the basic understanding of forest resources, ecology, and management, as well as current issues in forest management. Topics to be addressed during the Institute include: tree identification, forest measurements, soils, watershed management, wildlife ecology, forest insects and disease, silvicultural prescriptions, and conservation biology. Special emphasis will be given to the management of school forests and sustainable forest management principles. Teachers will receive curriculum support materials to assist them in the development and implementation of a forestry-related teaching unit.
